Celebrate Christmas with the

Sounding Joy Christmas Choir 2018

Love to sing familiar Christmas music? The Dallas Christmas Choir (The Sounding Joy) has one big practice in November and sings in December. We perform at malls (Northpark this year, Senior Citizens residences, and other places around Dallas.)

Only ONE BIG REHEARSAL this year -- we'll sing familiar songs, mostly what we've done previously -- and we'll post practice videos on the web.

2018 Season Rehearsal is Sunday, November 18, 3pm to 5pm

Help us help others

Personal items needed. The Sounding Joy will be singing at senior citizen residences his year. Many of these older people live in near poverty conditions. We hope to give them small Christmas gifts at the performance. We’re told they need personal items such as soap, toothbrushes, deodorant, socks, etc. … and they also like candy. If you know of some resource (hotel, dentist, store, etc.) that would be willing to donate some of these items, we’d be happy to get them to the individuals in need. Any quantity from 50, 100, or 200 can be used. Contact alan@dallaschristmaschoir.com if you have something to donate.

The Sounding Joy Music Directors and Accompanists

Mary Anne Montgomery

Mary Anne Montgomery is a graduate of  North Texas State University (UNT) with a Bachelor of Music degree in Organ and Piano. She is currently the music teacher at Tyler Street Christian Academy in Dallas, accompanist for the Oak Cliff Childrens Chorus, and Director of Hand bells at Tyler Street Christian Academy.

Dale Daniels - Dale Daniels has served as a church musician for many years in Texas, Alabama, New Mexico and Georgia. Dale has degrees in voice from The University of South Alabama and in choral conducting from Southern Methodist University. He is a past Dean of the Plainview Texas Chapter of The American Guild of Organists. He was the Founder-Conductor of The Plainview Symphony Orchestra, The Montgomery Alabama Boychoir, and the Plano Boychoir. He enjoys travel and playing viola in the Richland College Orchestra.

Typical Questions:

Do I need to be a musician to join? If you have sung in a choir before (school, church, etc) and can follow a specific choral part (soprano, alto, bass, tenor), you'll fit right in.

I am a musician, how can I help? Of course, come join in on the fun! Plus, if you play an instrument, or have other ways you think you could help with the choir, let us know.

Do I have to come to all rehearsals? We have one one rehearsal this year -- however we're singing familiar songs -- bascially the same songs as last year. It's important to make this rehearsal, but if you proactice using the links to the songs, you're welcome to join in on the performances. (See links to rehearsal videos.)

Will I have to commit to all performances? We know that people have busy schedules. We generally plan performances on evenings or weekends. We hope each member will make every effort to particpate in each performance, but we know it is not always possible.

What's the purpose of this group? There are (at least) two purposes: It is for people who love Christmas music, and enjoy celebrating Christmas through song. We also want to bring Christmas joy to the Dallas community. For example, when we sing in senior facilities we often bring residents small gifts to help them celebrate Christmas. At times a professional Santa donates his time to help make the celebration even more special for them.

Who funds this group? This is an all volunteer group that is funded by ourselves. You are under no financial obligation to join. If you'd like to make a donation to help us purchase gifts for seniors, purchase music, etc. you are more than welcome.

What songs do you sing? We're finalizing this year's list now, but past seasons include: Deck the Halls, It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, Happy Holidays, Hark the Herald, Joy to the World, Lo How a Rose, Carol of the Bells, Do You Hear What I Hear?, Welcome to This World, The Jesus Gift, O Little Town of Bethlehem, What Child is This, Silent Night, Bring a Torch Jeanette Isabella, We Wish You A Merry Christmas, and others.

How can I help spread the news about the Sounding Joy Choir? Invite others to participate, or to attend some of the open perfomances. Thanks.
